Teaching PM skills in CTE classes will increase the number of students learning PM as a life skill, a skill in their education/training process and as a job skill in most jobs.

For students who want more grounding in the fundamentals of PM, coordinated opportunities to apply PM skills in their communities, or who want to prepare in high school to earn a CAPM certification, a two year high school program in PM is envisioned.  Stand-alone exploratory and preparatory level classes can lead as far as certification preparation.

Pathways and Materials

Originally conceived as a two year high school program, a curriculum framework was developed for Washington State CTE programs that can be used at the appropriate level of detail in a one semester, one year, two year and/or college articulated program anywhere in the world.

Industry experience/certification or teacher preparation is highly recommended for a stand-alone class in Project Management (see “Teach PMforCTE”).

CAPM:  Certified Associate in Project Management is an entry-level industry certification that requires a high school diploma, passing an assessment and documented work experience in project management.
